Chair’s welcome

Warmest welcome:

I invite you to join with us in empowering all individuals and families to have safe and healthy relationships.

I got involved with Domestic Violence Resource Center because I believe everyone should feel safe in their home. I’m also supporting our agency because I believe that eliminating domestic violence requires all of us to have healthy relationships with our partners. Safety and health are basic human conditions that lead to well-being and success.

These are exciting times at Domestic Violence Resource Center. Under the leadership of La Donna Burgess, Executive Director, we are continuing to strengthen our services and programs. We are expanding our services for children to help them overcome the trauma they have experienced at home. In particular, we are extending our successful children’s programming to Monika’s House Shelter. Our Protective Order Advocacy Program continues to partner with the court system and law enforcement to provide the initial legal remedy for victims on their journey to safety and health. Our adult counseling program has been restructured to be more accessible in more areas of Washington County as well as at Monika’s House Shelter. Our programs are bilingual and bicultural - English and Spanish.  In all of our programs, we continue to work closely with volunteers and counseling interns to meet the community need for our services. And last, but not least, we are working to strengthen our partnerships with other service providers, be it public agencies or area nonprofits.

I encourage you to become involved with Domestic Violence Resource Center because intimate partner violence affects all of us. The lives of victims and survivors of domestic violence are overshadowed by their experience.  We provide the support and tools that victims and survivors need to move beyond violence.  Supporting Domestic Violence Resource Center helps our community - where we all live, work and play.

If you are interested in becoming involved with our Board of Directors, please don’t hesitate to contact me.  We are seeking interested people, particularly with a background in finance, fund development and/or from the Latino community, to join our board in the coming year.

Thank you for making a difference.
