6 aspiring students need school supplies at Monika’s House
We need help with school supplies for the start of the new school year!
Monika’s House Shelter needs school supplies so that children can start their new school year off right. Please consider sponsoring a child and donating the supplies one child needs to start school. Currently, we need school supplies for a Kindergartner, a 3rd Grader, a 5th Grader, a 6th Grader, an 8th Grader & a Sophomore in High School.
Please look at the school supply lists on our website, listed by age group, and see if you can take care of the needs of one student! We’d like for individuals or groups of donors to sponsor a student and put together the whole list of needs, if at all possible, so the student can have everything they need to be successful! Thanks so much for your generosity. If you have questions please contact Christie Costello, Community Outreach Coordinator at christiec (at) dvrc-or (dot) org or 503-926-3245.
Note from the Shelter on other current in-kind donation needs:
“We have 3 working infant car seats with docks and 1 car seat dock without a working car seat. I tried tracking down some car seats but was only able to find some at a lowered price… but they would still be around 40 dollars each. I need some booster seats or combination booster seats for children over 25 pounds.”—Monika’s House Shelter Children’s Advocate, Brittany
Let Brittany know at brittanyr (at) dvrc-or (dot) org if you can help with this need!

Welcome to our new Community Outreach Coordinator
Christie Costello joins Domestic Violence Resource Center through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps Northwest program
Please help us welcome our new Community Outreach Coordinator Christie Costello! She will be joining us full-time through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps Northwest program. She will be helping us to give and coordinate presentations and trainings in the community. It’s only through education that we’ll break the cycle of violence, so we’re very excited to have a full-time person dedicated to reaching out to the community.
Christie has signed up for a second year with the JVCNW program and chose Domestic Violence Resource Center as her site this year. She spent her first year of service through JVCNW working at Raphael House, another domestic violence shelter program in the Portland metropolitan area, so she is passionate about building support for survivors! We are happy to have Christie on board.
Christie would love to hear from your community organization, faith group, school, or business. Learn how you can get involved and how you can help break the cycle of violence—or schedule one of our presentations with your group today (.pdf link to menu of presentations offered by the agency).
