ISing Concert Series

ISing Community Choir, which gave a magnificent performance at the 10th Candlelight Vigil, has partnered with Soroptimist International of Hillsboro to give 3 performances benefiting Domestic Violence Resource Center. Admission is FREE. Donations will benefit Monika’s House Shelter, a service of the Domestic Violence Resource Center.

“ISing Old Notes, New Notes with a Twist” is a concert of holiday music taking old traditional tunes and texts that have been reworked by modern composers. Be it the “Fire Chord” in Morten Lauridsen’s, “O Magnum Mysterium,” or the rhythmic frenzy of Steven Sametz “Gaudete,” or even the surprisingly subdued “Personet Hodie” arranged by Vijay Singh, all the music has been modified with a new approach. “I Wonder as I Wander,” a traditional Appalachian Carol, is arranged in an unexpected way by composer Leo Nestor. African American Composer, Nathaniel Dett, composed an Anglicized version of “Ave Maria” and Robert Ray takes the “Magnificat” out for a gospel spin.  Brass Unlimited joins ISing Community Choir for this concert and will accompany the choir in presenting “Cool Yule” by Louis Armstrong, and arrangements of “Sleigh Ride” and “Boogie Woogie Santa Claus.”  Please join us for a wonderful experience of holiday music as ISing Community Choir and Brass Unlimited present ISing Old Notes, New Notes with a Twist under the direction of Stephen Galván.

The dates and locations of the concerts are:

1) Saturday, December 1, 7:30 p.m.:  Christ United Methodist Church, 12755 NW Dogwood Street, Portland (Cedar Mill)
2) Saturday, December 8, 7:30 p.m.: Bethel Congregational Church,  5150 SW Watson Ave., Beaverton
3) Sunday, December 9, 2:00 p.m.: Hillsboro Presbyterian Church, 172 NE 32nd Ave., Hillsboro

ISing Community Choir is a community choir based in Beaverton, Oregon and serving the Portland metro area. Our primary purpose is to develop and promote an appreciation of choral music through the presentation of public concerts and performances and to educate its musicians and the general public in the musical arts.
